December 2, 2009—Health Care Disparities: Perspectives

Ernest Moy, MD, AHRQ, summarizes key findings from the 2008 National Healthcare Disparities Report. Three themes emerge in the 2008 NHDR:

  1. Disparities persist in health care quality and access;
  2. Magnitude and pattern of disparities are different within subpopulations;
  3. Some disparities exist across multiple priority populations.

Romana Hasnain-Wynia, the Institute of Medicine subcommittee, discusses the report, Race, Ethnicity, and Language Data: Standardization for Health Care Quality Improvement.  Hasnain-Wynia explains why collecting this data matters, how it can be done, and the value of this information for reducing known disparities in health care are the focus of her presentation.
