Cultural Competency: Creating Materials and Providing Support to People Affected by Cancer

The Cancer Legal Resource Center, joint program of the Disability Rights Legal Center and Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, provides free information and resources on cancer-related legal issues to cancer survivors, caregivers, health care professionals, employers and others coping with cancer. It is a program of a larger organization that works with people with a spectrum of disabilities, including chronic illnesses that, under the law, may and often qualify as "disabilities." A cancer, chronic illness or other diagnosis may carry with it a variety of legal issues, including insurance coverageand access to health care. These legal issues are hard to navigate even without cultural and language barriers.
