St. John's Hospital - Improving Quality
St. John's Hospital, a 431-bed facility in Springfield, Illinois, used best practices and peer-to-peer learning to significantly reduce harm across the board. By focusing on just culture, daily safety huddles and weekly adverse event reports to all staff members and senior leaders, the hospital had nearly a 90 percent reduction in patient harm. The hospital's efforts to prevent central line-associated bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections contributed to these results. St. John's Hospital Hospital was part of the AHA/HRET Hospital Engagement Network.
