Get Tested Coachella Valley--Coachella Valley, CA

The Coachella Valley is a region in Southern California with an incredibly high rate of HIV. Based on the knowledge that increasing the number of people being tested for HIV can lead to decreased transmission, a campaign to increase testing called “Get Tested Coachella Valley” was initiated. Through strategic communication and broad and accountable coalition building, the campaign is making community-level environmental changes. The campaign continues to expand and is making deeper impacts on the community’s health by: developing a media campaign; establishing testing sites at non-clinical centers; and partnering with community organizations and leaders, Get Tested is shifting the region’s culture around HIV testing.

This case study is provided by Active Living By Design, an organization that delivers multidisciplinary expertise in public health, public policy, urban planning and design, community development, communications, nutrition, architecture and social work.
