Celebrating Success but Continuing the Work

Nearly 1,500 U.S. hospitals are working to eliminate patient harm and reduce hospital readmissions by participating in the AHA/HRET Hospital Engagement Network. About 200 of these hospitals have currently met the national reduction goals established through the CMS Partnership for Patients initiative. The success of these health care organizations—acute, critical access and children’s hospitals—speaks to their hard work and commitment to improvement. And more hospitals are continuing work to attain the PfP goals. The AHA/HRET HEN website features background information, resources and case studies for all of the topic areas that HEN hospitals are targeting for improvement. These core topic areas include adverse drug events; catheter-associated urinary tract infections; central line-associated blood stream infections; injuries from falls and immobility; obstetrical adverse events; pressure ulcers; preventable readmissions; surgical site infections; venous thromboembolism; and ventilator-associated events. Leading edge advance practice topics include C. difficile infection and antimicrobial stewardship; ICU harm; sepsis; and procedural harm.
