Accelerating Health Care Equity

April is National Minority Health Month. Led by the HHS Office of Minority Health, the 2016 events are centered on the theme “Accelerating Health Equity for the Nation.” The AHA offers numerous resources to help hospitals and health systems provide high-quality, patient-centered care to all. For example, the Equity of Care website features case studies, reports and videos—as well as the #123forEquity Pledge to Act—all targeted to assist health care leaders in accelerating health and health care equity. Equity of Care is the national collaborative effort of the AHA, American College of Healthcare Executives, America’s Essential Hospitals, Association of American Medical Colleges and Catholic Health Association of the United States, all working to eliminate health care disparities. An April 28 Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence webinar “A Focus on Health Equity and Coverage” will be hosted by Equity of Care, Institute for Diversity in Health Management, and Hospital Engagement Network 2.0. Presenters will provide an overview of the Office of Minority Health’s “CMS Equity Plan for Improving Quality in Medicare” and the ongoing CMS initiative From Coverage to Care. In addition, leaders from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles will discuss the organization’s journey toward health care equity.
