Quest for Quality--2012

Every four years, the Olympic Games recognize athletes on a quest to be the best in their chosen sport. Each year, the American Hospital Association-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize recognizes hospitals and health systems that have made significant progress in their quest to provide high-quality health care. Care delivered at these hospitals exemplifies the Institute of Medicine's six aims: care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient-centered. This year?s winner is University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Cleveland, an organization that for more than a decade has focused on transforming its culture to achieve and sustain the highest levels of quality and patient safety. This year?s finalists are Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx, NY, and University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Meriter Hospital, Madison, WI, received a citation of merit. These hospitals, too, have used best practices to achieve quality and performance improvement.
