Improving Patient and Family Engagement in U.S. Hospitals

Patient and family engagement is associated with fewer adverse events, lower health care costs, decreased use of services, better patient self-management, and higher patient-satisfaction scores. Earlier this year the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation funded the Health Research & Educational Trust to survey hospitals about their patient-and-family-engagement practices. Of 25 key strategies identified on the survey, half of the respondents employ eight or fewer, indicating an opportunity for improvement. On this webinar, presenters gave more detailed results from the research survey and highlight two hospitals that excel in patient-and-family-engagement practices. Speakers from these two hospitals discussed how they implemented the practices and gave actionable advice for other health care facilities.
