Evidence-based Holistic Approach to the Prevention of Pressure Ulcers

image

The goal was set to develop a system-wide infrastructure to support the implementation of evidence-based clinical practice standards and effective prevention strategies that will have a direct impact on the incidence and prevalence of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and sustainment of organization-wide improvements from baseline. The goal was achieved with the support of senior leadership setting performance targets, assigning accountability, providing resources, and communicating that pressure ulcer prevention is an organizational priority. A task force led the intensive effort and has now evolved into a standing oversight committee for all matters related to clinical practice, education, product evaluation, and performance monitoring. It is chaired by a clinical expert in the field of wound management and has considerable staff and interdisciplinary representation.

Each year, IHA recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Illinois hospitals in continually improving and transforming health care in the state.  These hospitals are improving health by striving to achieve the Triple Aim--improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction); improving the health of populations; and reducing the per capita cost of health care.

Award recipients achieve measurable and meaningful progress in providing care that is:

  • Safe
  • Timely
  • Effective
  • Efficient
  • Equitable
