Evolution of a hospitalist

Rob Olson, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist in Bellingham, Wash., sold his solo practice when he heard about the possibility of providing obstetrician-hospitalist services to local hospitals as an independent contractor. "The main reason to have an obstetrician-hospitalist is because it's safer for women in labor, but we also make the lives of obstetricians less stressful," Dr. Olson says. "Having a hospitalist supports solo and small group practices."
