CLABSI Taskforce: Reducing Central Line- Associated Blood Stream Infections in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

At Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, the pediatric intensive care unit has been implementing practices to eliminate central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSI): standardizing a central line infection prevention checklist; stocking a central line insertion cart with required equipment and supplies; holding daily discussions of continued need for a central line; and more. To reach a goal of zero infections, the PICU formed a central line infection prevention task force, with the objective of reeducating staff about the insertion, documentation, maintenance, sustainability and removal of central lines.
