Warrior-centric Health Care: Training The Need for Cultural Competency Training for Military and Veteran Communities

After a decade of war and an unprecedented number of combat deployments, our service members, veterans and their families are faced with the consequences of war's invisible wounds. Representing roughly 25 percent of the U.S. population, this group has experienced clinically significant episodes related to post-traumatic stress disorder, alcohol abuse and other mental and behavioral health conditions. Careful cultural considerations between military and veteran patients and their caregivers are important for improved diagnosis and treatment.

This webinar, in conjunction with the Institute for Diversity in Health Management, was designed to increase the awareness of providers, allied health team members, academic medical center leaders, policy makers, and community and faith based organization leaders regarding the skills necessary for standard and consistent application of culturally competent methodologies when treating military service members, veterans and their families.

Webinar presenters included:

  • Ronald J. Steptoe, CEO of the Steptoe Group, LLC.
  • Evelyn L. Lewis, MD, president and CEO of Evelyn Lewis International | the Pecan Chronicles; chief medical officer of the Steptoe Group LLC
