The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative: Improving Maternity Care and Increasing Breastfeeding Rates

Hospitals and care systems across the country are engaged in quality improvement efforts to improve maternity care and increase breastfeeding rates. More American women are breastfeeding now than in previous years, however, rates of exclusive breastfeeding remain disappointing. The AHA's section for maternal and child health and the National Institute for Children's Health Quality (NICHQ) joint webinar presented information and resources on the baby friendly hospital initiative that helps hospitals improve their maternity practices to support mothers who choose to breastfeed.

This webinar describes the initiative, the 10 steps to successful breastfeeding and feature a hospital success story shared by the CEO of Providence Hospital, who talks about applications of quality improvement to drive change in practice to help mothers successfully breastfeed.
