Financial Goals and Health Care

Whether cheering for soccer, tennis, baseball, softball or another sport, fans no doubt have witnessed the robust and disciplined preparation of star athletes in their field. Using a disciplined and robust financial planning process can guide hospitals and care systems navigating the challenging health care environment. Particularly in transitioning from a fee-for-service approach to a value-based business model, health care organizations should be proactive in developing and implementing a comprehensive financial plan to guide their progress while helping to ensure financial sustainability into the future. A new HPOE guide Navigating the Gap Between Volume and Value: Assessing the Financial Impact of Proposed Health Care Initiatives and Reform-related Changes was developed with Kaufman, Hall & Associates Inc. This guide provides step-by-step information and examples on the financial planning process as hospitals and health care systems move toward value-based care and payment. These steps include establishing a foundation, preparing sound baseline financial projections in uncertain times, and understanding and testing the impact of major strategies. The ultimate goal: delivering high-quality care to patients and communities.

HPOE.org features case studies, webinars and guides from AHA resources and other groups.
