State of the State: Reducing Readmissions in Massachusetts

A new report from MHA and Collaborative Healthcare Strategies— State of the State: Reducing Readmissions in Massachusetts—analyzes the existing readmissions data, uses that data to point out specific paths for improvement, and details some of the best readmission reduction practices now underway in the state. The data show a clear and distinct drop in readmission rates beginning in 2008 and continuing through 2013 both in Massachusetts and nationwide, and a narrowing of the gap between Massachusetts rates and national averages. Since then, more recent readmissions data included in the "State of the State" report shows Massachusetts holding steady since 2013 and lagging the U.S. average.
