The IHI Improvement Capability Self‐Assessment Tool is designed to assist organizations in assessing their capability in six key areas that support improvement:

• Leadership for Improvement
• Results
• Resources
• Workforce and Human Resources
• Data Infrastructure and Management
• Improvement Knowledge and Competence

Hospital leaders and staff can use the tool in several ways:

• To stimulate discussion about areas of strength and weakness;
• To better understand current improvement capability; and
• To reflect on and evaluate specific improvement efforts.
